Tea Party Blogger Interview: Jasprit from The Reader's Den!

Yay! Today I have Jasprit from The Reader's Den (one of my favorite blogs EVER) to answer questions about her favorite lovey-dovey stuff! Let's get started!! 

1. Favourite romantic cover?

Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill. I don’t like my romantic covers to be full with over the top public displays of affection, as I normally take my books everywhere with me, so I don’t want to be hiding my embarrassing cover. So I think the cover to Meant to Be is just perfect, you have a gorgeous backdrop of London faintly highlighted in the back and the couple look so cute together. And then the colours are so bright and pretty, honestly I could sit there all day stroking my gorgeous copy.

2. What type of boy do you usually swoon for?

I used to like the typical bad boy with the tattoo sleeves and bad reputation that falls for the sweet girl and changes his whole life around such as Alex Fuentes. But recently my taste has changed, I find myself swooning over the guy with the floppy hair and gorgeous smile. They usually have that glowering look nailed, which kind of stops in your tracks when you know you’ve done something wrong. But no matter what they will always have your back. Perfect examples include Four from Divergent and Alex from Alderson’s Lila series.

3. What is your favourite friendship that develops into a romance?

Mia and Michael from the Princess Diaries series. The friendship between Mia and Michael has to be my all time friendship ever. Mia always had a secret crush on Michael, before she became Princess of Genovia. I liked how despite Mia getting her royal status Michael still treated Mia the same. I enjoyed watching the slow build-up of their relationship of being friends to being something more through the series. It was obvious as the series developed that they were meant to be together, with all the obstacles thrown their way, their relationship still remained strong.

4. Who is your favourite geeky, adorable boy?

My favourite geeky adorable boy has to be Cricket from Lola and the Boy Next Door. He’s geeky, charming, and has mile high hair and when he’s thinking things through he has a difficult equation face! He’s clever as he’s always developing little contraptions or robots, but he’s super sweet too, putting other people before himself; allowing his sister’s training schedule to take the spot light in his family for years, always trying to help other people out and some of his sweet lines honestly had me melting.

5. Who is your favourite couple that more people need to know about?

My favourite couple that I think a lot more people need to know about are Heather and Cooper from Meg Cabot’s Heather Wells series. Heather used to go out with Cooper’s brother, but they had a dramatic break-up and since then Cooper and Heather have been living together through mutual agreement. You don’t get to see their relationship until the third book in the series, but the build-up in book one and two is so worth it. It’s like they totally get one another, Cooper can keep Heather calm and cheer her up when she’s feeling down and who wouldn’t want to have built private investigator who constantly reminds you he has a gun permit watching your back?. And Heather’s the one that only understands the real Cooper, with a crazy family like Cooper’s; Heather is the only one that can keep him sane. Cooper also has a dry sense of humour which will keep you in hysterics and Heather’s life is always crazy with her taking it on herself to solve murders at her work and consequently putting her own life at risk and Cooper always trying to bail her out. I hugely recommend everyone picking up this series just so that they can welcome Cooper and Heather into their lives, the series does take a while to get into, but like I mentioned before it’s totally worth it. My love for these two you can probably tell from the mini novella I’ve written.

What are the best parts of blogging?  The things that put a smile on your face…

There are so many perks of being a blogger, I don’t even know where to begin. One of the biggest ones for me would probably be getting to meet so many people who love reading and books as much as me and sharing my love of books with, well, the world. I finally feel like I fit in somewhere! It’s crazy to think that I now have friends in China, the U.S., India, France... it just blows my mind away. And they’re all so sweet and enthusiastic; I love the whole blogging community. In The Teen Book Guru, I feel like I’ve found my safe haven- my second home. I can be whoever I want, say what I’m really thinking, and be upfront and stay true to what I believe in. I know it sounds cheesy, but my blog has become a monumental part of me, I don’t know what I’d do without it.

Don’t you think it’s fabulous that as well as sharing our love for books through blogging, we can swoon and discuss book boyfriends too? *eyes gleam like a crazy girl*

OMG Bev, don’t you know it! What I LOVE about reading, is that it’s an escape from reality. Whatever you’re going through in real life- the problems, stress, pressure- you can just let go off when you’re reading and immerse yourself in a different world. And in those enthralling story lands are... BOYS! And not the drooling morons in real life, but gorgeous, sweet, beguiling ones! There are so many amazing fictional guys, and if I could, I would marry all of them (the ones I like anyway). Honestly, with so many swoon-worthy male characters, why do we settle for the real ones? ;)

I’d say that when we love a guy in a book, we gush about them in our review… and then we gush about how we would love said guy too in each other’s Comments sections.  We seem to have pretty similar taste ;)  But just to confirm it, can you tell us what it is that makes you fall for a fictional guy?

Well. This is a toughie. We do have really similar taste, so how about you start, Bev? :P I guess, for me, it’s not really one type of personality that makes my toes tingle and belly hum. I could rattle off a list of ten things I look for in a guy, but that’s not what makes me fall for them. Two of the most amazing fictional guys in my eyes; Etienne (Anna and the French Kiss) and Tobias (Divergent) could not be more different. But they’re both special in their own way, which endears me to them. They’re loyal, strong, gah-or-geous and real sweethearts. However, I do have to say that I have a soft spot for bad boys. Oh, yeah. But they can’t just be plain bad. They have to have some kind of depth and sweetness inside them- that’s always what makes me fall for them. I guess, (and I’m really just clutching at straws here :P) what makes me fall for a guy is how real he is. Nobody’s perfect, and  neither are any fictional guys - although some are pretty darn close... ;)

Fictional guys seem to be so much better than ones in real life *sighs* I guess that’s why they’re in books, right?  Anyways, if you could invite any fictional boy to a tea party who would you pick?  And what would you serve him? (‘cos the second best thing after boys is food :P)

This is going to be extremely difficult! But, since I have to choose, I’d go with...

Etienne St. Clair, from Anna and the French Kiss.

I know he’s in a deep, burgeoning relationship with Anna (who I also adore), but we can still be friends! Right? *hyperventilates* Riiiighht??

Anyway, I had a huge list of guys to choose from, but I went with Etienne because I think he’d fit in the best at a tea party. He is, after all, British- complete with an accent and everything. He’s also SUPER charming and magnetic, not to mention gorgeous, so he’d be making friends in no time!

Okay onto food (another one of my passions)... I guess, since I’m a sucker for those traditional British tea parties, that I would serve him scones, tea (uh, duh), and finger sandwiches. *adopts a British accent* Doesn’t that sound simply scrumptious? ;)

What would you be your PERFECT date?  Is it inspired by a book by any chance?

Well, this is going to be slightly unrealistic and dreamy, since most of the dates I’ve read about are nothing but! One date I’ll always remember comes from The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green. Gus and Hazel are in Amsterdam, dining at a beautiful, scenic restaurant. But it’s not really the setting I fell in love with; it was more the simplicity and honesty both of them shared. It was really different from anything I’d ever read, and it was really profound. So, I’m not saying my perfect date would be in a beautiful place somewhere in Europe (although, that does sound pretty good), I guess I’m saying that my ideal date would involve us getting to know each other and just discovering each other; being comfortable to talk about everything. Rose petals and french wine wouldn’t hurt either, though. :P

Are you a fan of love triangles?  If you could be the third love interest on any couple, who would you choose?

I absolutely DETEST love triangles. In my opinion (purely as a devoted reader and gusher rather than a reviewer extraordinare) I think they just add unnecessary stress and tension. They do make it slightly more interesting, but at a huge cost! Aaah I’d hate to be a third love interest on any couple, because you know, with my stunning looks and personality, the guy would OBVIOUSLY choose me (not), but I guess I would go with Daemon and Kat. They are definitely, hands-down one of my favorite YA couples, and I would give anything to be able to witness their scorching chemistry first-hand. I mean, hello, someone call the fire-fighters!

Moving on from guys (I know, it’s too hard!), what are some of your favourite YA romance/contemporary books?

This is a toughie. There are so many darn good books out there! However will I choose? *scratches imaginary stubble*

HEY BEV!! *waves like an even crazier Asian* Awww...thank you so much for inviting me to be a part of your super amazing Valentine's event!!

What are your favourite parts of blogging?

There's so much I love about blogging! I get to share my love of books with all the book lovers around the world and I've met some incredibly awesome blogging friends as well :) I can rant on and on about how much I love a book or how much I dislike a book, and no one will think I'm strange. (Something that is impossible to do in real life since most of my friends despise books so much :S). I love getting the chance to chat with authors; especially authors of my favourite books ever! I used to think authors were quite intimidating; I mean, they're like celebrities...and chatting with them like good old friends is just unheard of. But authors are so sweet and they're like us book lovers as well :) I also have a better knowledge of old/new/upcoming books after I started blogging. The blogging community is super amazing!

Personally, reading also gives me the chance to ‘meet’ loads of guys – a very diverse range, at that – and blogging lets me gush about them and connect with other bloggers about particular swoon-worthy ones :P Anyway, do you feel boys in books are realistic or completely different to what they are like in real life?

OH YES! I love how I get to meet the hottest guys ever and also gush about them with other bloggers :) I remember I used to *attempt* to gush about certain book boyfriends to my friends in real life, and they would just stare at me like I was on drugs. Thank goodness for this fantastic blogging community! 

I think many boys in books are based on real people; whether it be the author's husband/boyfriend/partner, brother, friends...or...just real people in general. Except I'm going to do that annoying thing where you're given A and B as options, but I'm going to choose C. Why? Well..I think that a lot of the characters possess a combination of a variety of traits from different guys that authors find are admirable. The flaws will be eliminated and a 'perfect' guy will be created. In a way, these characters will be 'realistic' but too 'perfect' to be real. We all have our wild imaginations and I think a lot of boys from books are a reflection of the author's own idea of an ideal guy. I mean, a guy as talented and perfect as Edward Cullen simply doesn't exist in real life...and even Noah Shaw! He's freaking PERFECT. But I've never met someone like him. Ever. And I don't *think* guys like him exist. He's WAY too perfect! But then again, books are fiction; and I like to read about things that take me away to a different world, and that includes swoon-worthy boys who *may* not exist in real life.

I haven’t forgotten that you ‘married’ Noah Hutchins from Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry a few months ago… I’m not even sure if I’ve forgiven you for being so sneaky and not even inviting me to the wedding! ;) Noah definitely comes under the ‘Bad Boy’ category. So are you mainly attracted to bad boys in fiction?

*shrinks away* Well...we did get married in secret; I mean, if I'd invited you, then others would probably scream at me to invite them too...and then there would be this whole uproar at the wedding and all the girls would be protesting..and Echo would kill me, so...I just couldn't risk inviting anyone :S SORRY! But like I said a few months back, you're invited to our anniversay party :D

Hmm....in fiction, when it comes down to 'bad boy' vs. 'good boy', I would usually choose the 'bad boy'. (It's a different story in real life though!) Bad boys are always so dark, mysterious soalluring and personally, I find it so darn hard to resist them! Most of the bad boys I've read about are only 'bad' to hide things about themselves or life from everyone around them, and I think most girls just want to break down their barriers, and 'fix' them. It's a challenge for us girls and I suppose it also feels good to know something about someone that no one else is aware of. It makes us feel..*special* and loved :) And the good guys? Well...personally, I find them a little boring (don't kill me!). They're the straight A students in school, with a scholarship to some famous college; they're loved by everyone in the community and everything in their life is suppose to be 'perfect'. What's the thrill in that? So...at the end of the day, I'll always be attracted to the bad boys in fiction :)

Assuming you’ve moved on from Noah (could you really?), if you could spend Valentine’s Day with any fictional guy of your choice, who would you pick? Where would you go? What would you guys do? Spill all the details, my friend ;)

You kidding? I'd never cheat on Noah...or 'move on' from him either! You have got to get over your jealousy Bev dear :) hahaaa

*sigh*

But assuming I do move on from him (which I won't!) I'll probably want to spend Valentines with Ash. This mysterious and irresistible Ice Prince is my ex (haha) and I would probably go back to him. Hmm...to start off the day, Ash and I can have the time of our lives (or the time of my life at least) in the Nevernever, hiding from the deadly creatures and fighting the gremlins whilst trying to escape into the real world. Not very romantic I know, and there's probably no swoon-worthy times, but seriously, having a romantic dinner/going to the movies to see a romantic chick flick is so not Ash's style. But Ash *may* get injured and he'll have to take his shirt off and I'll have to dress his wounds...and...I'll get to see his sexy abs...and..and...drool a little too much. We'd arrive in the real world and in order for Ash to gain his strength, he would need glamour. We would decide to crash a high-class party at a 5 star hotel and after Ash regains his strength, we would dance...and dance...and dance the night away :) Oh, did I mention he would be clad in a white tuxedo? Freaking hot. Then, we'd somehow find our way to Paris (through the Nevernever), tour around Paris by ourselves and end up right before 12:00am at the Eiffel Tower. We'd make our way to the very top of the tower...and with the words "i love you" and a spine-tingling kiss, my life would be complete :)

I’m guessing, as a fellow teenage girl, you like romance to be done well in books. So what do you think about the New Adult genre? It’s definitely fired up in the romance department! Do you have any favourites?

I'm so glad you asked this questions Bev!! I've been dying to voice my thoughts about what I feel about the New Adult genre, but unfortunately, no one's been willing to be on the receiving end of my rambling. *cough*parents*cough*

ANYWAY, yes, I always want romance to be done well in books. Like well as in no insta-love, no 'oh-god-i-can't-live-without-pretty-boy' after a week of meeting him. The New Adult genre has certainly fired up in the romance department! There's lust and an abundance of hot and steamy scenes :) I believe I've fallen head-over-heels in love with every single NA book I've read since mid-2012!

While a lot of people may think the NA genre is unnecessary, and I do understand their thoughts but I personally love the NA genre. I guess it helps that I've recently graduated high school and I'll be entering Uni in a few months, so I'm able to relate to the main characters in these books (they're usually around 18-22) as well as the events that take place in college/during the characters' transitio from a teenager to an adult. I personally think NA books are a must-read; most of them are unputdownable!!

- Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire(Yes..well...I personally loved it!)

- Slammed/Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover

- On Dublin Street by Samantha Young (this one's probably aimed at older NA readers...but it's still SO amazing!!)

- The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorensen (Look out for her 'The Secret of Ella and Micha' published by Hachette/Sphere in mid-2013!!)

Hello, Bev and Jen!! I’m so glad to be here! Thanks for having me! It’s such an honor to be interviewed by you guys, especially since you both know that my secret dream is to live in this gorgeous blog forever! ♥ *wink wink* 

I’m just gonna go straight in and ask… what type of fictional boy makes you swoon?

Aww, that’s a hard question since I actually don’t have type! I always go for tall, dark, and dangerous type with devil-may-care smile on his face in Supernatural YA (hello there Adrian Ivashkov!), but I love boy-next-door or good guy type in Contemporary (I’m absolutely head over heels in love with Owen from Just Listen). As long as they love the heroines with all their hearts, I guess I have no problem falling for them. ;)

Me every time I meet a new book boyfriend:

If your favourite fictional guy whisked you off on a romantic date, where would you go and what would you do?

Um, since my favorite fictional guy is Finnick from The Hunger Games, it’d be nice to go to the beach where he can take his shirt off. Finnick can teach me how to catch some fishes and then we can light bonfire and spend the night cuddling in a blanket, preferably in a starry night. Yes, I’m a romantic. ♥

Who is your most loved, adorably geeky guy?

Charlie from The Perks of Being a Wallflower! He is the most adorable, loveliest geeky guy ever. I just want to hug him and become his friend! I especially love that Charlie makes a mixtape for his friend’s Christmas present. The time and effort he puts into that kind of thing is very sweet. ♥

What are your thoughts on love triangles? Can you give us some examples of which you loved or hated?

 Mmm… I’m not a fan of love triangle. Love triangle is a big no-no-no for me. I always feel sorry for the guy who is not chosen in the end. Plus, I think love triangles would almost always ruin the stories, sorry! >.< I guess the only love triangle I kind of like is Unearthly, because the love triangle doesn’t take the front seat. :)

Do you prefer sweet romances which make you go ‘Aww’ or hot, full-on romances which make you fan yourself from the heat?

 Wait… can’t I get both? Pretty please? ;)

Hehe, if I have to choose, I think I would pick adorable romance that make me go ‘AWWWWW SAWEEET I’m a jelly now marry me PLZ’ sand then I’d faint because of excessive cuteness. I particularly adore sweet romance with slow pacing because the story feels more realistic. :)

Do you have any favourite YA couples?

 I love Adam and Mia from If I Stay! They are such meant-to-be couple. Tris and Tobias is the kind of cool couple that I truly admire. They are great individually, but they are indestructible together. ♥ I also really like Augustus and Hazel from The Fault in Our Stars. I wailed like a baby when I read that book hehe!

What are some of your favourite YA romance/contemporary books?  Are there any you’re anticipating in the coming months?

My favorite contemporaries are If I Stay, The Fault in Our Stars, Just Listen, and Easy! I haven’t got the time to read Gayle Forman’s new book, but I hope it would be as good as If I Stay! :)

Tea Party Blogger Interview: Vy from Vy's Blog!

Woohoo! I hope you guys are liking the interviews with these lovely bloggers, because I've got another one to share with y'all! Today I'm going to be interviewing Vy from Vy's Blog. Let's begin! 

1. Favorite couple of all time?

All time?! Hmm... this has to be one of the most difficult questions I've ever had to answer. I have to go with Mia and Adam from If I Stay & Where She Went.

2. What's your opinion on love triangles?

I absolutely LOVE a good love triangle. They can get extremely messy really quick though. All the stars to Cassandra Clare for those epic triangles. My favorite right now is Will, Jem, and Tessa from The Infernal Devices. CASSANDRA, WHY MUST YOU RIP MY HEART OUT?!

3. Any favorite subtle romances?

Yeah, I don't really do "subtle" romances because I'm more of the "hot and steamy" kind of person. hah! I'm kidding, seriously, I'M KIDDING. I recently read The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater and loved how subtle the romance was. The same goes to The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater.

4. Which type of boy do YOU usually swoon for?

This is so cliche, but I always end up swooning for those "bad-boys" as we so call label them. I love nice guys too, but these authors really know how to write up these "bad boys".

5. Are there any romance pet peeves you have?

INSTA-LOVE. That is all.

Vy, I totally GET YOU when you say Adam and Mia are your favorite couple of all time! Their romance is definitely something special. Yikes, should I admit that I STILL haven't read The Infernal Devices, and therefore the love triangle in the story...? HOT STEAM, YES. But I'm glad you're still able to find some good, subtle ones. This New Adult book took the blogosphere by a storm last year and I'm sure it will continue to grow a fan base  especially now that it's been picked up by a publisher!  I'm currently reading it (stupid exams are stopping me from finishing it!) and it's really good so far so I'd urge you to enter the giveaway!

Tea Party Blogger Interview: Aneeqah from My Not So Real Life

Welcome to another blogger interview! Today I'm going to be chatting with Aneeqah from My Not So Real Life! I love this girl, so I was extremely excited to ask her questions about romance and couples. :)

1. Who is your favorite geeky, adorable boy?

Étienne St. Clair from Anna and the French Kiss hands down! That boy is seriously swoon worthy, being oh so adorable. While I don’t know if he would classify as the geekiest kid out there, he is totally adorable and just... hot. Seriously, I wish there was a real life St. Clair. *sighs*

2. Who is your favorite hot, badass guy?

This one is a competition between Kaidan from Sweet Evil and Perry from Under the Never Sky. Honestly, both are totally swoon worthy, and can kick some serious butt, which I always appreciate. And yet, both have a soft side as well, making them that much more lovable. 

3. Which type of boy do YOU usually swoon for?

I will pretty much swoon for all boys that have a sweet side, no matter if they’re geeky, or totally badass. It doesn’t matter. There’s just something about a vulnerable side that never fails to make me completely swoon.

4. Have you ever "switched sides" of a love triangle in a series?

So I’m pretty decisive when it comes to love triangles- once I choose a side, I will always stay on that side. However, as a series progresses, I’ve definitely come to see the other side of the love triangle; why people like the other person in the love triangle. Although I don’t change my opinion, I learn to respect other’s and why they think that way.

5. Favorite couple of all time?

Ugh, what type of question is this?! I could never choose just one. But my Top 4 have got to be Tris and Four from Divergent, Noah and Echo from Pushing the Limits, Anna and Etienne from Anna and the French Kiss, and Duval and Ismae from Grave Mercy. 

*squeals* Thanks for your lovely answers, Aneeqah! I'm fangirling with you right now, Étienne St. Clair is definitely my favorite geeky boy as well. I still need to meet this Perry! You’re a regular Twitter user (Twitterer? Tweeter? Twit?) and we’ve chatted several times about books but I don’t think we’ve talked about fictional guys.  So, tell us which type of fictional guys do you usually swoon over?

Regular Twitter user?!?! It's more like I'm attached at the hip to Twitter. That's not why you asked the question, so let me log off Twitter and then I shall answer your question!

*thirty minutes later*

WAIT NO TWITTER *clings* Five more minutes?

Okay now to the actual question!

The kind of fictional guy that I absolutely love and want to steal for myself is a guy who can be really sweet and vulnerable when he needs to be, but has a little bit of that dark and dangerous vibe underneath. And smartness! Every Asian needs their intelligence ;) And if we're also talking physical traits, I REALLY love piercing eyes. Like, a LOT.

Yes, yes, yes! AGREED!  I love a guy who can be 

What do you think of insta-love?  Love it? Hate it?  What other romance pet peeves do you have?

I really despise insta-love. To me, it's like the author took a lazier way out instead of developing two characters' relationship. I get there being an initial attraction, but if the author elaborates on that attraction later on, THEN I get it. But if it's like "I like you" and then the second time you go on a date, "I love you." Then I'm like, "Yeah...no."

I do recall you like guys with British accents, are there any particular fictional ones you loved?

CAN ANYONE SAY ETIENNE ST. CLAIR?!?!?! I LOVE THAT BOY TO DEATH! Seriously, he's just SO sweet! Sososososososososososo sweet and romantic and OMG I need to reread Anna and the French Kiss now! *melts into a gooey puddle*

If you could invite any fictional guys to a tea party, who would you choose and why?

This is totally easy. Ash from the Iron Fey! Number one, the Iron Fey is my favorite series EVER and Ash is a total sweetheart, even though he's an Ice Prince. COME HITHER ASH. *fangirls*

Do you have any favourite couples?  Ones where you loved the guy but felt bad because the girl was awesome too and they were perfect for each other?

*points above* Ash and Meghan are pretty much the best couple I have ever seen. The best. They're both so stubborn and, if you've read the books, you know how epically perfect they are for each other! AND Anna and Etienne. Like, I'm not kidding, those two are so sweet. And Driggs and Lex from Croak by Gina Damico are so hilarious! Their relationship is half awkward, half sweet, and all parts hilarious! :D

What are your favourite romance/contemporary reads?  And which ones are you anticipating in the next few months?

Anna and the French Kiss! Lol I knew you were anticipating that one! I also loved Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry (who didn't?), Speechless by Hannah Harrington, and Smart Girls Get What They Want by Sarah Strohmeyer (can anybody say ermagawd Gigi and Mike are the BEST?)

Finally, can you share with us some covers that are really sweet or romantic for us to coo over?

Hmm...*searches on Goodreads* I actually don't know! Pushing the Limits has a super romantic cover though! Seriously. It's such an awesome book. And usually I think of romantic books to be books where the guy and the girl are like in a serious liplock or something, which probably isn't the best book for me to read with my parents available to see the cover. *cough*

BUT, OMG, I love Lola and the Boy Next Door! That is so sweet and Cricket looks like he's so achingly in love with Lola! RIGHT? AM I RIGHT? And I still need to read Anna and the French Kiss again! Or buy myself a copy. Or just fangirl in general over it.
