The Essence Blog Tour: Blurb, Author Spotlight, & Giveaway!

Hi everyone! I'm here today to tell you guys about THE ESSENCE by Kimberly Derting, the sequel to the THE PLEDGE. I have yet to read The Pledge, but it sounds amazing! Make sure you enter in the giveaway below as well. :) Thanks to Shane at Itching For Books for hosting this blog tour and letting me be a part of it! Check out the rest of the tour here!

Blurb
Name: The Essence (The Pledge, #2)
Author: Kimberly Derting
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry
Release Date: January 1, 2013
Pages: 352, Hardcover

“Danger, dread, mystery, and romance” (Booklist) continue in the second book of The Pledge trilogy, as Charlie’s reign is under siege from the most unusual of enemies.
At the luminous conclusion of The Pledge, Charlaina defeated the tyrant Sabara and took her place as Queen of Ludania. But Charlie knows that Sabara has not disappeared: The evil queen’s Essence is fused to Charlie’s psyche, ready to arise at the first sign of weakness.
Charlie is not weak, but she’s being pushed to the brink. In addition to suppressing the ever-present influence of Sabara, she’s busy being queen—and battling a growing resistance determined to return Ludania to its discriminatory caste system. Charlie wants to be the same girl Max loves, who Brook trusts, but she’s Your Majesty now, and she feels torn in two.
As Charlie journeys to an annual summit to meet with leaders of nearby Queendoms—an event where her ability to understand all languages will be the utmost asset—she is faced with the ultimate betrayal. And the only person she can turn to for help is the evil soul residing within.

  1. Oh wow, this book sounds fabulous! I haven't read The Pledge yet, but I have it on my TBR list since I've heard such wonderful things about it. :) The cover of The Essence is absolutely gorgeous, too. :) Thanks for sharing, Jen!

  2. EEK. So I kind of accidentally, maybe, dropped out of this one. Okay, so not ACCIDENTALLY. I ended up not being able to read it; good thing I didn't get my review copy yet lol ^_^

But yeah, this book does sound SUPER intriguing right? RIGHT. Like seriously, if only I knew this was a SEQUEL. I totally noticed a BIT too late that this was a sequel. I AM SO EPICALLY SMART.

This is the awesome way I represent Asians everywhere.

    Bow beneath my feet!

(Did you know I originally spelled "feet" "feat" before I realized it was the wrong feet? That is how intellectually smarticle I am)

  3. Ok first, I need to laugh at Eileen's comment before I write mine...

HAHAHA LOL EILEEN. Doesn't that chick just knock your socks off?!

ANYWAYS, I was about to say that I'm like the only person that hasn't read anything by Kimberly Derting, but it's so reassuring that you haven't read The Pledge yet either, Jen! Although I've gotta say, I like this cover. I'm glad it's not the same ol' girl in a dress type thing (which let me tell you, I appreciate at times, but GOODNESS GRACIOUS, it has been overdone!). I also love that pop of red with the girl's hood and all.

Anyways, thanks for sharing Jen! <3 Hopefully I'll be able to pick up The Pledge soon. =)

  7. I've read her other series and enjoyed the first book and hated the second one. So, I've never felt like trying out this series of hers. It sounds interesting though! Maybe I should give it a shot one of these days! :)
